3 arrested in plot to shoot up high school in Canton, Georgia
Three people have been arrested in connection with an alleged plan to carry out a shooting at Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia, authorities said.
Police said they collected guns, ammunition and electronic devices during the investigation. Officials have not revealed where the weapons were found or shared details about the alleged plan.
The investigation began on October 19 after the FBI discovered threatening social media posts and informed school police. School officers then contacted detectives in Canton.
Investigators identified a young person from Canton who was allegedly connected to the threats. The juvenile was arrested on October 20 and charged with conspiracy to commit murder and interfering with the operation of public schools. Because the suspect is underage, authorities have not released their name.
Detectives later identified two more suspects and obtained arrest warrants on October 22. Both were arrested the following day.
One suspect, 17-year-old Shane Keith Taylor, was arrested in Metter, Georgia. Canton detectives worked with federal and state agencies and the Candler County Sheriff’s Office to make the arrest. Taylor was charged with conspiracy to commit murder and taken to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
The second suspect, 21-year-old Michael Brandon Terry, was arrested in Chatsworth, California. The FBI and Los Angeles police assisted in the arrest. Terry also faces a charge of conspiracy to commit murder and is waiting to be transferred to the Cherokee County Adult Detention Center.
Police have not released further information about the evidence because the investigation is ongoing.
Authorities said investigators have found no known continuing threat to Cherokee High School or any other school in Cherokee County.
The investigation is still underway. The allegations against the suspects have not been proven in court.
